It is important to understand that the green lifestyle is not about absolutes. Small changes done collectively, can make a significant and positive change for the benefit of our planet, and therefore on our quality of life, for this and future generations. So, ease yourself into this exciting lifestyle.
At Eco Fabulous Canada, we focus on green, chic fashion. However, making green a lifestyle can also be fun, healthy and rewarding in other areas of your life.
Do your research and seek out sustainable, eco-friendly and healthy choices in:
Food
Buy local. Organic. Consider trying a few vegan dishes. As a rule, stay away from the white and beige items when eating (white rice, white flour, white bread, granulated sugar, fries, etc.)– stick with colours. Definitely stay clear of sugar substitutes except natural ones (e.g. stevia)
Babies
Do consider cloth or biodegradable disposable diapers.
Bath & Body
Take showers instead of baths where possible. Consider deodorants or deodorant stones as alternatives to antiperspirants; cloth or biodegradable feminine hygiene products. Opt for eco-friendly hair products that do not have harmful chemicals for our environment, start with eliminating those in aerosol containers (e.g. hair spray).
Beauty (Skincare, Makeup and Hair)
In addition to choosing products that are made from plants and being careful to read labels indicating carcinogens, focus on packaging. No plastic containers or encasings. Think biodegradable and/or reusable.
Cleaning
When cleaning, keep it simple. Vinegar, baking soda and occasionally, eco-friendly bleaches should be all you require. As well, choose to use cloths instead of paper towels when possible.
Detergents
Whether for cleaning your clothes or washing dishes, always choose eco-friendly products. The quality of our water supplies is contingent on more people making this simple decision.
Fragrance, Perfumes, Colognes
More than environmental concerns, there are health implications to this decision. Wherever possible, opt for fragrance-free and natural scents
Mattresses, Pillows and Linens
Yes, even these can be eco-friendly and healthier. Research your options.
Building Products
If you are going to build, or renovate, you may as well choose eco-friendly and healthier building materials or features. Many reputable contractors, builders and stores can guide you through these choices
